Role: Head of Development1 day a week in office Location: Hammersmith Salary: £87,000 – £102,000We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Development to the Development Services within a public sector origanisation. This role involves operational management, financial control, and leadership to implement the business plan and deliver multiple complex development schemes, including new housing and community assets.Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the Development Service, ensuring all schemes meet key performance targets.
  • Deliver 3,000 new energy-efficient affordable homes by 2026.
  • Maximise affordable housing delivery, capital receipts, and environmental performance.
  • Manage a capital budget of £0.5bn and an annual operational budget of £1m.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure compliance with council principles and policies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with elected members, external stakeholders, and developers.
  • Lead procurement activities for design, technical, and construction consultants.
  • Ensure seamless handover and operation of new homes and assets.
  • Contribute to strategic and operational leadership within the Place Division.
About You:
  • Relevant degree in construction, development, or regeneration, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience managing complex mixed-use development projects.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with development finance and appraisals.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of town planning, development, land acquisition, and public sector procurement.
  • Ability to manage significant budgets and identify funding opportunities.
  • Commitment to equal opportunity, customer care, and service delivery policies.
This role requires flexibility, with the expectation to work from various locations and attend meetings outside regular hours.
