Operational Risk Consultant (Contract) – London

Venn Group is working with a prominent banking institution seeking an Operational Risk Consultant for a contract role with a prestigious bank in London. This opportunity is designed for a highly experienced professional with a strong background in operational risk management within the UK banking sector.

The role will involve working on critical risk management initiatives to strengthen the bank’s operational resilience and compliance frameworks. This position offers a chance to contribute to high-profile projects within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing and improving the bank’s operational risk processes and culture. Responsibilities will include:

  • Operational Risk Framework Development:Enhancing existing frameworks and methodologies to align with best practices and regulatory expectations.Contribute to the design and upholding of policies related to the Operational Risk Management Policy across the business.
  • Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA):Supporting and executing RCSA processes, identifying key risks, and ensuring appropriate controls are in place.Act as an escalation point for internal queries to ensure adherence to best practice Risk Management methodologies. Work as part of a group Risk Oversight team to scan horizons and identify areas of interest for correction.  
  • Policy Implementation and Compliance:Ensuring adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements, including PRA and FCA standards, while driving the integration of policy updates across the business.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:Collaborating with senior stakeholders across multiple business functions to embed a strong risk culture and enhance risk awareness.
  • Incident Management:Leading the end-to-end management of operational risk incidents, including root cause analysis, mitigation planning, and reporting to senior management and regulators.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:Analysing operational risk data to identify trends, generate actionable insights, and prepare comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have a strong blend of technical expertise and interpersonal skills, allowing them to make a significant impact on the bank’s operational risk capabilities from the outset. Specific requirements include:

  • Proven Experience:At least 5 years of operational risk management experience within UK banking institutions, with a demonstrated ability to deliver in contract or interim roles.
  • Regulatory Knowledge:In-depth understanding of UK regulatory frameworks, including expectations from the PRA and FCA, and how they impact operational risk management.
  • Strategic and Analytical Thinking:Strong analytical skills to assess risk data, identify control gaps, and propose effective solutions.
  • Stakeholder Management:Experience working closely with senior stakeholders, with the ability to influence decision-making and drive cultural change.
  • Adaptability:A proactive and flexible approach, capable of quickly onboarding and delivering in time-sensitive environments.
