Purpose of the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced individual to be an integral part of the Business Development Team, working collaboratively with the wider group to successfully bring investment opportunities to market. Reporting to the Business Development Director (BDD), the primary objective of the Business Development Manager (BDM) is to achieve capital raising goals by effectively collaborating with the BDD and Associate Business Development Manager (ABDM) to execute the agreed sales plan for their portfolio. While the BDM does not have direct line management responsibilities for the ABDMs, they should act as a mentor to assist in their development and progression within a growing team.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of our client and its investment products.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of the wider marketplace, including wealth management, financial advice, alternative investments, inheritance tax planning, and later life planning.
  • Raise capital by growing, managing, and servicing relationships with key intermediaries, primarily financial advisers/wealth planners, but also including accountants, private banks, lawyers, and tax advisers.
  • Collaborate with the Distribution team to successfully take investment opportunities to market.
  • Confidently promote our client and their investments through face-to-face meetings, group presentations, industry events, and phone interactions. The BDM should be capable of presenting alongside the BDD when necessary.
  • Build a reputation as a trusted business partner with relevant intermediaries.
  • Work closely with the BDD to organise and host events, seminars, and presentations.
  • Identify potential new business opportunities within the market.
  • Act as a role model and mentor to ABDMs.
  • Follow the agreed sales methodology, building rapport and positioning solutions to influence adviser behaviour.

Role Requirements

  • Strong experience in a similar role, with a proven track record in building and managing client relationships within a financial intermediary sales environment.
  • Experience in the sale of VCTs/EIS, inheritance tax, estate planning, later life, or trust-based solutions preferred. Specific experience in Business Relief qualifying investments and relationships with advisers recommending such solutions is highly desirable.
  • Level 4 RDR qualified Financial Planner or equivalent; STEP qualifications and/or SOLLA accreditation are desirable.
  • Immediate gravitas, impact, and credibility.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to professionally represent and sell complex structured products and other investment funds at a senior level.
  • Proven ability to network and maintain long-term client relationships at all levels.
  • Understanding of the structuring and tax advantages of financial products, with the ability to communicate these concepts at both a high and detailed level.
  • Sound judgement, adaptability, and the ability to influence others.
  • Commercial acumen and an enthusiastic, progressive approach.
  • A driven, competitive individual with the ambition to achieve targets.
  • An entrepreneurial team player who demonstrates pro-activeness, enthusiasm, and a 'cando’ attitude.
