School Facilities Assistant

We are seeking a Facilities Assistant to support the head of facilities & operations in the non-teaching aspects of school life, with a focus on portering, maintenance, and security. This role is crucial in maintaining the site to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of all pupils, staff, and visitors. The Facilities Assistant will carry out a variety of duties and must be adaptable to cover different shift patterns and responsibilities.

Day to Day of the role
  • Monitor security measures, challenge unknown individuals, and maintain vigilance through CCTV system monitoring.
  • Ensure all access routes and emergency exits are clear and common areas are free of clutter.
  • Carry personal radios, duty phones, and keys, providing instant availability during term time, including lunch breaks.
  • Undertake portering work within the school and at external sites for school activities, including setting up halls and laying out exam desks.
  • Maintain store rooms safely and efficiently, advising on and ordering necessary materials.
  • Perform minor DIY tasks, furniture assembly/repairs, and general maintenance.
  • Carry out administrative tasks, including photocopying, internal messaging, and locating students.
  • Drive vehicles following Corporation guidelines, if eligible.
  • Act as fire stewards during emergency evacuations or drills.
  • Deputise for the HFO in their absence as directed by the COO.
  • Undertake any other duties as reasonably requested.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to perform maintenance and portering tasks.
  • Strong communication and team-working skills.
  • Vigilance and attention to detail for security purposes.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Experience in a similar role is preferred.
  • Full UK driving licence is advantageous.

Early Shift 05:30 - 14:00 inclusive of 1 hour unpaid lunch break

Late Shift 11:00 - 19:30 inclusive of 1 hour unpaid lunch break

Maintenance duty roster

Two weeks early shift, two weeks late shift

Early shift 07:00 – 15:30 inclusive of 1 hour unpaid lunch break

Late Shift 08:00 – 16:30 inclusive of 1 hour unpaid lunch break
