As a key member of our housing repairs team, you’ll be essential in maintaining fire safety throughout the borough. Your main tasks will include specialist fire safety works, such as fire stopping and compartmentation, to ensure community safety. You’ll work flexibly and professionally, following all health and safety regulations and best practices.Key Responsibilities:
  • Install fire doors to manufacturer specifications, ensuring compliance with UKAS-accredited standards like BM Trada or FIRAS, with a goal of fitting at least two door leaves or sets per day.
  • Conduct fire door inspections via a PDA as part of our maintenance program and perform minor repairs as needed.
  • Pre-inspect doors, take precise measurements, and maintain accurate fire door records.
  • Assemble fire blanks, frames, and perform lock changes on fire doors across the borough.
  • Construct fire-rated casings and erect partition walls in line with fire-resistant compartmentation standards from Approved Document B 2010.
  • Install fire signage as per BS 5499-10:2014.
  • Manage materials efficiently, reduce waste, and make informed specification choices.
  • Carry out pre-measuring tasks to ensure the completion of work and handle minor decorative repairs during installations.
Key Requirements:
  • NVQ2, City & Guilds qualification in a building-related field, or at least two years of relevant experience (five years of trade experience will also be considered).
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Previous experience in door fitting is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work efficiently under deadlines, use sound judgment, and solve problems proactively.
  • Strong attributes of flexibility, confidentiality, trustworthiness, and reliability.
  • Experience with fire door installation and repairs is a distinct advantage.
