MakeShift is a brand-new bar and café concept in Islington Green, leaning into creativity, adaptability, and resourcefulness. Our food menu focuses on small plates and bar snacks, complementing a drinks menu that allows guests to customise elements of their cocktails. With a small, self-sufficient kitchen and an indoor capacity of 18 covers (expanding to 34 in warmer months with outdoor seating), this is an opportunity to help shape a new and exciting hospitality space.
The RoleWere looking for an experienced café-style chef to take full ownership of our small kitchen during service. The menu is already set for launch, but as we grow, youll have input in its development. This is a solo kitchen role, meaning youll need to be highly self-sufficient, organised, and comfortable working independently. The role also includes food ordering, stock control, and maintaining exceptional hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Food Preparation & Service Execute a small plates/bar snacks menu to a high standard.
- Kitchen Management Handle ordering, stock control, and minimising waste.
- Cleaning & Maintenance Maintain high hygiene standards, clean down the kitchen after service, and assist with washing up.
- Occasional Front-of-House Support Running food when required.
- Adaptability & Menu Development Work closely with the team to refine and develop the menu over time.
? Experience running a café kitchen or similar small kitchen operation.
? Self-sufficiency youll be working solo, so you need to be independent and organised.
? High standards of cleanliness & efficiency in food prep, service, and kitchen maintenance.
