Interim Assistant Director – Community Safety

Location: London, hybrid with 2-3 days per week onsite

Length: 3 – 6 months initially

IR35 Status: Inside

One of our local authority clients is urgently looking to recruit an Interim Assistant Director of Community Safety, Resilience and CCTV to provide strategic leadership and management to all services within the Community Safety Service.

The key components of the Interim Assistant Director of Community Safety include:

  • Acting as the senior strategic lead for Community Safety issues, taking overall responsibility for devising and implementing the Council’s Community Safety Strategy and evaluating effectiveness
  • Being the strategic lead for CCTV in the borough, ensuring that the borough asset is maintained and effective with minimal outage
  • Providing strategic leadership to the Council’s Gangs, Violence and Exploitation Unit in order to tackle gangs and youth violence, improve opportunities for young people affected by gangs and ensure the Council adopts leading practice for safeguarding vulnerable young people
  • Being the corporate lead officer for Emergency Planning ensuring that the Council has the necessary capabilities to respond to a range of major emergencies in line with regional and national guidance
  • Briefing the Chief Executive, Leader, Chief Officers and Councillors on national and regional policy development in relation to all matters within this portfolio
  • Developing close working relationships with all statutory partners

Experience and skills required of the Interim Assistant Director of Community Safety:

  • Previously led and worked in Community Safety Teams and Emergency Planning response
  • Experience of chairing Safety Advisory Groups
  • Strategic understanding and experience in this area of work
  • Strong staff management, partnership and member relationship skills
  • Previous experience of leading and delivering commissioning processes
  • Experience in this area gained from a local government background ideally
