Responsible for running the Customers Committee and working groups, the Deputy Director will lead policy direction on customers, to ensure they have a fair deal and access to great energy services; that the industry sets high standards for its performance and engagement with customers, particularly the vulnerable; and that we build the Net Zero economy.

Managing a small team, the post holder will also liaise with other teams across the policy directorate to ensure efficient use of resources and resources are used to best effect, this will include matrix working across teams as needed.

You'll be:

• Supporting the Customers Committee and its associated committees and working groups
• Proactively informing the policy making process by engaging early, providing rigorous analysis of proposals and putting forward evidence-based solutions.
• Communicating policy positions to stakeholders, you'll also take opportunities to speak at external events, and input into Energy UK events planning, organising working groups, meetings and events.
• Monitoring policy and regulatory developments and understand the macro and micro economic environment and its impact on the energy sector, be actively involved in policy debates.
• An active member of the management team, playing a role in leading the organisation.
• Undertaking occasional media work

We are looking for:

• A strong background in economics and policy development
• A proven background in energy related context- specific knowledge of the energy retail market will be of particular interest
• Awareness of key policy makers and opinion formers and how they operate and the ability to understand how policy changes may impact on the broader landscape
• The ability to influence key stakeholders with strong, evidence based, analysis
• Excellent people management skills and experience of matrix working.
