Netball Development Trust (NDT) is a UK charity that delivers netball at grassroots in less developed countries, allowing children the freedom to play and have fun. We work with schools and projects in the community to help young people become players, leaders, coaches and officials of the future. We then use netball as a tool to bring communities together, where we and our partners can deliver sexual and reproductive health awareness.

The Director of Development will work three days a week, focusing on securing the crucial funding needed to sustain and grow our charity's impact.

The Director will be responsible for providing leadership, developing and implementing Netball Development Trust’s strategic and operational plans and for the management and administration of the charity.They will work in partnership with and reporting to the Board of Trustees.

Summary of duties

You will be responsible for developing, updating and implementing our strategic and business plans, ensuring NDT remains a sustainable organisation. You will seek out, develop and maintain effective working relationships with all relevant organisations and individuals to promote and further the work of NDT and facilitate the implementation of its strategic objectives.

You will work with the Board to ensure compliance with legal, statutory and regulatory requirements and good governance.

You'll be responsible for implementing and overseeing the development of high-quality projects and have responsibility for all functions including communications, marketing and management and recruitment of volunteers.

You'll liaise with the Board of Trustees to develop and lead on the implementation of the charity’s financial plans, including setting budgets and maintaining effective financial management and control systems. You'll oversee fundraising activities and implement a robust income-generation strategy.

You'll be responsible for overseeing brand consistency and developing and implementing an integrated campaigns and media strategy.

This role includes international work and you must be prepared to travel to visit project sites for up to 4 weeks of the year. You'll need to be flexible when working for a small organisation and carry out other duties that may be required.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Working strategically to develop successful partnerships and alliances at local, regional and national levels.
  • Extensive volunteer and staff management experience including: resource planning, selection and recruitment, appraisal, staff and volunteer development, wellbeing, health and safety, performance management, succession planning.
  • Experience of successful fundraising and delivery of projects internationally, particularly across Africa and/or India.
  • A sound understanding of confidentiality issues, safeguarding practices and professional boundaries.
  • A sound understanding of health and safety and working in international settings.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: including staff and volunteer training, negotiation, presentation and report writing.
  • Ability to engage with a range of people from different backgrounds, professionals, including maintaining relationships with funders, and members of the public and to establish good networks and relationships.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with a collaborative, facilitative and coaching approach to volunteers and staff; and flexibility in terms of dealing with an ever-changing environment.
