SALARY: £32,500 - £36,500 per annum (dependant on experience) + Benefits (see below)

LOCATION: This role can be Remote or Hybrid depending on your location. The role involves a mixture of travelling to client sites and working from home or from the office in London. As there are clients in locations nationally, candidates living in all locations across England and Wales are encouraged to apply for the role.

PLEASE NOTE: This role involves travel, conducting visits around the country as and when required and therefore having a driving licence is highly desirable

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a GDPR Data Protection Officer with experience in a data protection, regulatory / compliance, legal, education or consultancy background and working knowledge of Data Protection / UK GDPR.

Working as a GDPR Data Protection Officer you will audit organisations to ensure they meet the requirements of the UK General Data Protection Regulations and work with them to ensure they meet compliance by recommending procedures and processes they should implement.

As a GDPR Data Protection Officer you will provide expert solutions to complex data protection issues and queries in a practical and compliant way, identifying and drafting policies and processes to help improve a client’s data system.

Whilst this is a legal role, the organisation will not be able to assist individuals in qualifying as a solicitor.

DUTIES

Your duties as GDPR Data Protection Officer will include:

  • Conducting data compliance audits to clients, analysing findings and presenting them into an audit report with recommendations and follow up
  • Reviewing policies and procedures and systems used to determine data protection compliance and providing recommendations on how these can be improved
  • Dealing with phone or email queries received, providing practical advice and guidance, conducting research, setting out options and dealing with any follow up
  • Drafting and reviewing Data Protection Impact Assessments
  • Checking-in with clients regularly to determine how they are working towards compliance
  • Carrying out training to staff (when required) to ensure staff are aware of their responsibilities
  • Assisting clients to handle data requests and data breaches, helping them manage to deal with them in accordance with statutory requirements
  • Helping to ensure data records are up to date and accurate
  • Being a proactive member of the data protection team, contributing to department meetings, presenting areas for discussion and development ideas

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in data protection, regulatory/compliance, legal, education or consultancy background will be considered - additional cross-training will be provided
  • High-level problem-solving skills, capable of producing and researching written content to a professional quality
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate to and communicate effectively with people at all levels, managing the differing expectations of all stakeholders
  • Strong experience of using IT, particularly in using Microsoft office and 365
  • Ability and willingness to undertake continual professional development training
  • Previous experience in a similar role within the education sector is desirable but not essential
  • Having a driving licence is highly desirable
