Data Protection Team Specialist

We are seeking a Data Protection Team Specialist to join our team of expert Data Protection practitioners. This role involves providing specialist advice and guidance on privacy and data protection compliance matters, managing complex Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), and coordinating Data Protection related projects. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert and support our Data Protection Officer. 

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Lead the Data Protection DPIA process on projects requiring Data Protection input and coordinate projects related to data protection.
  • Manage team input to ensure broad understanding and business buy-in to the value of DPIAs, ensuring that agreed mitigating actions are effectively deployed.
  • Create and maintain project records to meet Accountability Requirements.
  • Assist with a risk-based compliance programme, mapping out priority areas and allocating responsibilities.
  • Produce reports and KPIs to reflect workload and performance.
  • Lead the team to ensure the service is responsive, high quality, and provides clear & consistent advice.
  • Support the Team Leaders in training and development, and motivate the team to ensure an effective and efficient support service.
  • Provide cover for Team Leaders where required, assisting with broader compliance activities such as breach management.
  • Identify and deploy creative solutions to raise and maintain the profile of the team, ensuring privacy practices and policies are communicated and understood across the Group.
  • Support the DPO in monitoring, reporting, and delivering the ongoing compliance regime.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Demonstrable experience managing data protection related projects and working on data protection compliance programmes.
  • Sound experience offering data protection advice on a broad range of topics, including breach management.
  • Thorough understanding of existing data protection and privacy legislation, with excellent analytical skills to apply legislation practically.
  • Experience creating high-quality documents, diagrams, and models, and maintaining records and Accountability documentation such as DPIAs and ROPAs.
  • Good understanding of the Affordable Housing Sector.
  • Current and relevant professional data protection qualification.
  • Strong problem-solving ability, excellent communication and influencing skills, and ability to describe technical issues understandably to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working to deadlines, prioritising complex tasks, and working autonomously as well as within a team.
  • Experienced presenter.
