Senior Information Rights Officer

Location: Newham, London (Hybrid - Up to 2 days per week in the office)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Pay Rate: £21 - £22 per hour

Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior Information Rights Officer to join its Information Rights Team. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with Freedom of Information (FOI), Environmental Information Regulations (EIR), Subject Access Requests (SARs), and other individual information rights within statutory timeframes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process FOI, EIR, SAR, and disclosure requests, ensuring compliance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Environmental Information Regulations 2004, Data Protection Act 2018, and GDPR.
  • Apply relevant exemptions and exceptions before disclosing information.
  • Provide guidance and advice to council staff, improving understanding of information rights and related legislation.
  • Build strong working relationships with service managers, social workers, and external agencies to gather and process requested data.
  • Ensure the council's reputation is upheld by delivering timely, accurate, and legally compliant responses.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in information governance, data protection, or records management, preferably within a local authority or public sector setting.
  • Strong knowledge of FOI, EIR, GDPR, and the Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Experience in handling Children's SARs and working collaboratively with service managers and social workers.
  • Ability to interpret complex legislation, apply exemptions, and ensure lawful disclosures.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
