Purpose of Role:

The Head of Advanced Markets is responsible for developing and delivering country plans, market strategies, and projects within the Advanced Markets outlined in the City of London Corporationā€™s Competitiveness Strategy. The role focuses on driving trade and investment outcomes, strengthening international partnerships, and supporting economic growth in the UK by attracting and retaining foreign investment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the creation and implementation of market strategies and engagement plans for Europe, the US, Japan, Canada, Australia, and Singapore.
  • Oversee strategic collaboration with UK partners, ensuring alignment with industry and government priorities.
  • Manage trade and investment projects, ensuring Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) wins from target markets.
  • Develop expertise in trade policy, financing mechanisms, and market trends, supporting business development.
  • Coordinate engagement with the City Corporationā€™s Brussels and US offices, ensuring consistency in trade policy and promotion.
  • Provide strategic advice on trade and investment, identifying geopolitical risks in key markets.
  • Ensure strong collaboration with UK government bodies, overseas posts, trade associations, and industry partners.
  • Lead a team of advisors, ensuring effective pipeline management of trade and investment leads.
  • Oversee the development of high-quality promotional materials aligned with marketing strategies.
  • Provide briefings for senior officials, including the Lord Mayor and Policy Chairman, on trade and investment issues.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Degree-level education (or equivalent) with significant experience in trade policy, promotion, or international markets within financial and professional services.
  • Extensive knowledge of UK trade policy, financial regulations, and international market dynamics.
  • Proven experience in building partnerships with government, regulators, and industry leaders.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing projects, budgets, and teams.
  • Experience working in at least one of the Advanced Markets listed.
  • Ability to develop and execute corporate strategies in trade and investment.
  • Demonstrated experience in policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and international business development.
Technical & Interpersonal Skills:
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking with the ability to assess complex market opportunities.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and digital tools for reporting and project management.
