We’re looking for a Chief Engineer to join our Estates team. This role is vital in ensuring a first-class building maintenance service within the hospital and satellite sites, covering reactive, project, and scheduled maintenance work.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage and ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the department, ensuring all areas are covered in times of absence, annual leave, sickness, etc., delegating tasks where necessary.
  • Manage and coordinate PPM services from external providers, keeping the relevant departments informed and ensuring that disruption to patients and the business is minimized.
  • Manage and carry out PPMs and daily checks of allocated plant areas, ensuring the areas are well-maintained and tidy at all times.
  • Work on and manage planned preventive maintenance schedules, in line with departmental goals and objectives, maintaining accurate records and documentation at all times while liaising with your line manager.
  • Respond to and complete incoming works logged on the internal computerized maintenance management system, prioritizing your workload, and responding quickly to emergencies. Assess jobs and devise a plan of action to complete them.
  • Place call-outs with external service providers.
  • Manage departmental stock control - identify and source materials, raising and placing purchase orders on the internal requisition system.

What you’ll bring:

  • Qualified in a relevant discipline, e.g., City & Guilds/NVQ in Electrical, Plumbing, or M&E building services.
  • Extensive engineering experience within a hospital or similar organization is essential.
  • Management experience is desirable.
  • Good general knowledge and understanding of all disciplines within building services.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety, COSHH, Lifting and Handling, Fire regulations, and Water Management.
  • Supervisory, leadership, and team management experience.
  • Excellent communication skills
