Power Construction Risk Engineer – Permanent Role (Hybrid or Remote, UK)

Our client, a leading name in the insurance sector, is seeking experienced Power Construction Risk Engineers to join their team. Key Responsibilities:
  • Risk Assessment & Management: Provide expert risk management advice to internal and external stakeholders, focusing on power generation and construction-related projects.
  • Tool Development: Design and implement efficient, cost-effective tools and solutions to reduce financial risks for the company and its clients.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Analyse claims data to identify trends and incorporate lessons learned into the underwriting process, contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Client Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, brokers, and the insurance market to reinforce the company's reputation as a leading professional and ethical insurer.
  • Program Development: Collaborate with underwriters, insureds, and brokers to develop and execute effective risk management programmes.
  • Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement, enhancing workflows and team performance to deliver the best outcomes.
  • Training & Development: Expand your expertise beyond core areas to support underwriting and claims functions, delivering training and educational support to teams.
Qualifications & Experience:

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Education: A degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience with property risk hazards in power generation construction and operation, including projects like:
    • Biomass and Energy from Waste facilities
    • Gas and steam turbine generators
    • Hydro turbines and internal combustion engines
    • Heavy industrial machinery in non-power industries
  • Hands-On Expertise: Practical experience gained in the power generation industry or the insurance sector, with progressive responsibility in roles involving risk management or engineering solutions.
  • Professional Qualifications: Certifications in Fire Engineering, Risk Management, Process Safety, or similar disciplines.
  • Fire Protection Knowledge: Proficiency in implementing property protection solutions, including passive and active fire systems aligned with international standards such as NFPA 850 (Recommended Practice for Fire Protection for Electric Generating Plants).
  • Insurance Experience: While experience with a leading insurer or reinsurer is preferred, it is not essential.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong communication and negotiation abilities
    • Capability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
