About the Role:

Capilaux is hiring for a motivated and ambitious Principal Engineer to join a leading Rail team, with the opportunity to support the wider Infrastructure Engineering team (including Maritime and Asset Management). This dynamic role involves leading technical teams, managing client relationships, and offering career development to junior engineers. You will work on a diverse range of projects including Station Developments, AFA Schemes, Bridge Design, and Renewal Schemes, with clear career progression opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership: Act as Technical Lead and Project Manager as needed, with full autonomy in tasks and responsibilities.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and support engineers, helping to develop their technical skills and knowledge.
  • Client Relations: Manage key client relationships, undertake site inspections, and participate in client meetings.
  • Project Management: Define project scope, budget, and program, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently.
  • Design & Quality Assurance: Supervise, approve, and deliver technical reports, designs, and calculations in line with required standards.
  • Business Development: Contribute to proposals, tenders, and presentations to promote company services to existing and potential clients.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience: Minimum 8 years in civil/structural engineering (preferably within the Rail sector).
  • Professional Qualifications: Chartered or Incorporated status with ICE or IStructE.
  • Key Experience:
    • CRE(D) experience.
    • Project leadership and financial management.
    • Extensive design experience, especially in Rail and Infrastructure projects.
    • Knowledge of Network Rail and railway industry standards (Eurocodes, British Standards).
    • Experience with structural analysis software (Tekla Tedds, Robot, MIDAS, etc.).
  • Additional Skills:
    • Strong communication and client-facing abilities.
    • Proven line management experience.
    • Knowledge of CDM regulations and health & safety standards.
