This permanent role is pivotal in the development and strategic management of the Council's highway assets, ensuring the safety and improvement of the highways network.
Key Responsibilities:
- Taking a lead role in the planned and responsive maintenance of footways, drainage, and carriageways
- Managing projects funded through new developments, such as section 106 and section 278 agreements
- Overseeing externally funded highway works and regeneration streetscape projects
- Providing specialist technical overview and design of highway works programmes
- Commissioning and managing professional design services and highway works contracts
- Ensuring effective performance management and strategic leadership within the team
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including Transport for London, GLA, and developers
- Preparing reports on complex issues for senior management and council committees
Job Requirements:
- Significant experience in highway engineering and maintenance
- Strong knowledge of highway, transport, and safety legislation
- Technical expertise in highway engineering principles and methodologies
- Proficiency in project and contract management
- Experience in the use of IT, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation packages
- Exceptional report writing and presentation skills
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with external organisations and stakeholders
- Relevant qualification in engineering or a related field
