Senior Civil Engineer

My client, a successful Multidisciplinary Civil and Structural Engineering Consultancy is seeking a specialist and ambitious Senior Civil Engineer to join their busy Rail team in London. This is an exciting opportunity to support the broader Infrastructure Engineering team, which includes Maritime and Asset Management projects. This role is ideal for a dynamic, technically strong engineer who excels in client management and is passionate about mentoring and developing colleagues.

As part of a growing and enthusiastic team, you will work on an exciting portfolio of projects, including station developments, bridge design and renewals, and Access for All (AFA) schemes. This position offers genuine career progression in a collaborative and innovative environment

Key Responsibilities for this Senior Civil Engineering role include:

  • Lead and manage projects with minimal supervision.
  • Oversee and mentor engineers and graduates, fostering their technical and professional growth.
  • Act as a line manager, providing support to project teams and junior staff.
  • Prepare and manage fee proposals, project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Ensure projects meet financial, technical, and quality standards.
  • Develop and review technical reports, specifications, drawings, and calculations.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design processes and undertake design reviews.
  • Conduct inspections, examinations, and scoping visits with clients.
  • Uphold compliance with design standards, health and safety legislation, and relevant regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

Experience & Qualifications

It is essential for the Senior Civil Engineer to have a professional and commercial viewpoint through having the following:

  • Minimum 6 years in civil/structural engineering, preferably within the Rail sector.
  • Chartered/Incorporated with ICE/IStructE or near completion.
  • Strong knowledge of Eurocodes, Network Rail standards, and assurance processes.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary design coordination and project delivery.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., Tekla Tedds, Tekla Structural Designer, Robot, MIDAS).
  • Familiarity with CDM regulations and British standards.
  • Effective client-facing communication skills and financial project management experience.
