Goodman Masson are currently working with a social housing organisation in Sussex to recruit for an interim Building Surveyor.

Pay Rate: £35-£40 per hour Umbrella

Department: Repairs TeamReports To: Head of Repairs

Purpose:Manage building surveying activities within a defined area to ensure properties are safe, warm, dry, and compliant. Deliver a high-quality, cost-effective repairs service while maintaining strong resident satisfaction and monitoring stock conditions for improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Service Delivery:

  • Oversee surveying tasks, contractor supervision, budget management, and quality control.
  • Conduct property surveys, diagnose issues, and prepare technical reports and specifications.
  • Manage work progress, inspections, and ensure completion within time and budget.
  • Maintain communication with residents and assist with legal case management.

Procurement & Contract Management:

  • Ensure contractors meet expectations and address performance issues.
  • Support procurement processes and prepare schedules for contracts.

Record Keeping & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records, update asset databases, and audit data.
  • Monitor contractor performance and prepare financial and progress reports.

Technical Guidance:

  • Provide support and advice to internal teams and represent the organization in meetings.

General Duties:

  • Address repair inquiries and complaints.
  • Stay updated on industry developments, health and safety, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with staff to resolve issues and improve services.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • HNC or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Strong organizational, financial management, and IT skills.
  • Experience in surveying, managing repair cases, and delivering work plans within budgets.
  • Knowledge of construction industry procedures, legislation, and best practices.
  • Effective communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Awareness of the needs of diverse communities.
