Summary

We proudly manage one of the UK's largest and most varied let estates and are seeking a skilled Building Surveyor to join our Let Estate Management Team.

One of our main ambitions is to build a healthy and strong natural environment for people and wildlife. We have many exciting plans to support this vision, and this position will be crucial in making these projects happen. It will help shape the future of the charity and the places we care for and protect.

Your work will span some of the Trust’s most prestigious estates, from Morden and Osterley in London to the picturesque River Wey in Guildford, with additional responsibilities in various areas of Surrey such as Polesden Lacey, Hatchlands Park, and the Surrey Hills.

We’re looking for someone technically proficient in conservation, maintenance, and current building regulations to ensure effective delivery of projects.

What it's like to work here

The team collaborates closely to oversee our let estate assets, which, along with our strong relationships with tenants, contribute to our £50 million national rental income - crucial for funding our conservation initiatives.

As this role covers the London and South East region, your contractual place of work will be the nearest National Trust consultancy office to your home. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.

This role requires travel, so a full driving license and access to your own vehicle are essential (business mileage can be claimed as expenses).

Please note the advertised salary is inclusive of the Inner London weighting Allowance, currently £4,465 per annum.

What you'll be doing

You’ll have responsibility for the delivery of small and medium scale works across our let portfolio with opportunities to work on large developments in the future.

Providing practical building related supervisory support on repairs and maintenance in your portfolios, you’ll plan and deliver a programme of short and long-term cyclical buildings work, compliance works, and improvements for which you’ll have financial responsibility. At times you may also act as project manager, lead consultant or commercial client on small to medium projects.

You’ll deal with conservation issues on historic and listed buildings, undertaking surveys across the portfolio, producing work schedules, obtaining quotes from contractors and liaising with tenants to ensure works are planned and coordinated, managing works through to completion.

Each of your working day will be unique. You will be adaptable, flexible and will need to think outside the box. A flexible working method will be required at times. You’ll need to be focused, organised and skilled in prioritising your work to deal with the unexpected.

Who we're looking for

You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached.

•Competent in contract management and contract administration, producing work schedules and obtaining quotes from contractors.
