Mechanical Estimator - Water Treatment ProjectsLocation: Remote (UK-based) with occasional travelSalary: Competitive + benefits

A new opportunity is available for a Mechanical Estimator with experience in water treatment projects. This is a remote-based role with some travel required for site visits and meetings as needed.

You'll be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive mechanical estimates for a range of water and wastewater treatment schemes, supporting tender submissions and early-stage project planning.

The Role

  • Produce detailed mechanical estimates for new build, upgrade and maintenance works across clean and wastewater sites

  • Review technical documents, drawings and specifications to build accurate cost models

  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing and ensure competitive submissions

  • Work closely with design, planning and commercial teams to support pricing strategies and risk reviews

  • Contribute to bid meetings, clarify technical aspects, and respond to client queries during the tender process

  • Identify value engineering opportunities and ensure all estimates comply with client and industry standards

  • Maintain accurate records of assumptions, quotations and supplier communications

  • Support post-tender handover into project teams, providing clarity on scope and cost

  • Occasionally attend sites or meetings across the UK when required

What We're Looking For

  • Strong background in mechanical estimating within the water or wider process sectors

  • Experience with water treatment projects is essential (clean or wastewater)

  • Good understanding of mechanical systems including pumps, pipework, valves and treatment equipment

  • Able to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications

  • Familiar with estimating software and standard industry pricing databases

  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach

  • Comfortable working independently and managing your own workload

  • Clear communicator, able to work effectively with internal and external contacts

Desirable

  • HNC/HND or equivalent in mechanical engineering or related field

  • Knowledge of NEC contracts and public sector procurement frameworks
