Due to growth, a renowned private medical eye clinic that specialises in reversing blindness is looking to recruit an Ophthalmic Technician. This Ophthalmic Technician role is a permanent position, and it pays an annual salary up to £31k depending on experience.

The Ophthalmic Technician will carry out pre- and post-operative ophthalmic testing for the patients and help with surgical and admin duties within the nursing team. The successful candidate will also be involved in testing patients eyes for clinical trials.

Previous experience in ophthalmic testing is pre-requisite as well as a general interest in medicine and great customer service skills.

Duties

  • Conduct preliminary eye examinations, including visual acuity tests, tonometry, and refraction assessments.
  • Record patient histories and maintain accurate documentation of examination results in electronic health records.
  • Educate patients on pre-operative and post-operative care instructions as well as general eye health.
  • Operate and maintain ophthalmic diagnostic equipment such as autorefractors, keratometers, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) machines.
  • Schedule appointments and manage patient flow to ensure efficient clinic operations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients, addressing any questions or concerns they may have regarding their eye care.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or in a similar role is preferred
  • A strong understanding of ophthalmic terminology and procedures is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Attention to detail and strong organisational skills are essential for maintaining accurate patient records.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record systems is beneficial but not mandatory.
