This is a rare opportunity for an experienced sales professional to join a market-leading legal services firm. The Business Development Manager will be part of a team providing support to a dynamic, growing, highly successful and innovative provider of web-based legal and compliance management products. Currently focused on derivatives, shareholding disclosure, marketing restrictions, data privacy, e-signatures and crypto asset regulation, the products are used by institutions worldwide including most of the world’s leading banks and largest asset managers, together with a rapidly expanding corporate customer base.

You will be joining a firm at the forefront of legal innovation which has featured multiple times in the prestigious Financial Times Innovative Lawyers report. The team is based in London, New York, Australia, Belfast, Hamburg and Dubai, and enjoy both highly flexible working arrangements and an inclusive culture underpinned by openness and acceptance. The firm are driven by the belief that, to perform, people need support and space to collaborate and by combining those values with an ambitious outlook, employees will have the opportunity to thrive. In order to accelerate global revenues and build their sales talent pipeline, the firm is seeking a Business Development Manager to fit within its existing global sales team. Spanning the full range of the firm’s financial regulation products, the role will involve contact with senior legal and compliance influencers and decision makers within financial institutions including banks, private funds and asset managers. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, the successful applicant will require demonstrable aptitude in engaging with prospects on complex legal services, managing the process to convert interest into demonstrations and trials and subsequent conversion and will need to make use of their customer focused attitude and friendly and collaborative approach to engage credibly at a senior level. The role will require a level of understanding of the underlying products, although product demonstrations will, particularly initially, be done in partnership with relevant subject matter experts from the firm’s team of lawyers. The role holder will engage with and sell to senior contacts in legal and compliance functions of customer organisations. Since the firm serves a range of customers of different sizes, with different procurement processes, you will be required to deploy an adaptable and flexible approach. This will be a varied and challenging role with key duties encompassing the management of incoming leads through the sales pipeline, including arranging demonstrations and free trials, and conversion into subscription sales; leading client meetings and handling commercial negotiations with customers on fees and engagement terms; representing the firm at industry conferences and events globally; and suggesting improvements to products, sales processes and marketing collateral.

With an entrepreneurial outlook and passion to grow the business and deliver to the highest standards, the ideal candidate will have extensive sales and business development experience gained in a professional services environment and will be able to demonstrate success in delivering sales results whilst working within a publishing, data or information based business selling to financial institutions. Prerequisites for this role include an aptitude for quickly acquiring a rigorous understanding of the various technical areas covered by the firm's products and the ability to partner with subject matter experts to deliver powerful joint demonstrations. Practical, pragmatic and positive with a strong sense of ambition for personal and professional growth, the Business Development Manager will possess excellent organisation and prioritisation skills and the ability to make a credible impact with clients both via email and during meetings, including both painting the big picture and attention to detail. An existing understanding of selling subscription services would also be highly advantageous.
