Resourcing Group have an exciting opportunity to join a company specialising in technical services, FM, regeneration and energy services. My client is looking for a Commercial Manager based in London.

Job Overview

The Commercial Manager will lead the commercial delivery across a portfolio of contracts, working closely with the Account Director. They will provide contract commercial management and profit improvement, risk and opportunity management along with focus on compliance.

The Commercial Manager will manage numerous stakeholder relationships, including external relationships with clients, suppliers and internal BU leadership and functions.

The Commercial Manager will lead commercial management resources to ensure effective and pro-active commercial management of the allocated contracts.

Qualifications or Required Experience:

  • Extensive Commercial/Contractual experience within PFI contracts
  • Educated to degree/ diploma level in either Law, Business, Surveying (Building/Quantity), or the Built Environment (FM, Land).
  • Understanding and practical application of base UK law applicable to Commercial (Construction Act etc).
  • Ideally a member or training to be member of a chartered institution.
  • FM Experience & Extensive FM Knowledge

The role:

  • Supporting the Senior Commercial Manager in the satisfaction of commercial and company objectives
  • Taking the Commercial lead with clients directly to identify and resolve variation from the contract deliverables
  • Negotiating, on an equitable basis, internally and externally to ensure that the business is not exposed to risk.
  • Leading in all dispute resolution activity in these contracts areas or having a thorough input into the dispute resolution activity
  • Ensuring a contract review and governance framework is embedded on all contracts
  • Dealing reactively in mitigation key risk areas as they arise and providing support to Finance and Operations to resolve in a timely manner
  • Working within the operating environment to ensure company Code of Conduct is thoroughly understood, adhered to and promoted across the business to ensure safe, compliant and consistent working practices
  • Behaving with integrity and always demonstrating professional image
  • Full understanding of varying contracts PFI payment mechanism
  • To take personal responsibility & accountability for actions, constantly striving to improve and exceed expectations ensuring safety and quality are never compromised

Key Requirements

  • Has extensive commercial and contracts experience and demonstrable track record of owning and delivering pre and post contract activity, including:
  • Defining and/or advising on commercial strategy
  • Analysing and managing risk including assessing the revenue opportunity vs. cost and risk
  • Managing and securing internal approvals for new bid opportunities
  • Managing the commercial viability of variations
  • Leading negotiations encompassing multiple disciplines including supplier negotiations and flow-downs
  • Excellent knowledge of contract law and its application in services and construction
  • Excellent working knowledge of PFI contracts
  • Supporting the management of PFI Lifecycle funds
  • Modelling and testing contractual KPIs and Payment Mechanisms
  • Sound financial acumen (P&L, cashflow, balance sheet) and good understanding of financial modelling, contract pricing and differing pricing models
  • Producing reports and summaries (ad hoc and regular) which articulate key matters for a senior and/or non-commercial audience
  • Experienced in defining, driving and overseeing commercial & contract governance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
