NSB Recruitment Ltd have an exciting (fully remote) opportunity for a Trading Director to join a smart energy infrastructure company. My client has been at the heart of the UK Energy market for 25+ years and are playing a critical role in decarbonising the UK energy system. As a major energy services and smart metering company with technology, data and sustainability at the core of their ethos and business model, my client is committed to delivering the future of smart energy.

The Trading Director will be a key member of the business and will fully support/report to the Managing Director(s), running the trading desk to generate revenues for the BESS portfolio and any wider product or innovation which may evolve over time. These fully owned assets are optimised and traded in house via our clients own trading desk and utilising their own market access.

Location - Remote/UK Wide

Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Develop and constantly improve the trading desk and the traders in the team.
  • Performance manage traders daily (remotely).
  • Deliver revenue targets and growth plans.
  • Develop tooling to enhance the capability of the team to capture maximum spreads and perform in the upper quartile of RTMs.
  • Develop Intelligent Customer capability internally and externally focused.
  • Maintain market awareness for tolling and floor options and present findings, managing a mixed portfolio if opportunities arise to outsource.
  • Manage the risk positions and appetites, reporting to the MD/Board regularly on mitigations and management methods.
  • Ownership of the BEGA process for new sites.
  • Maximise Capacity Market revenues and manage the degradation impacts effectively working closely with the Asset Management team.
  • Evolution of trading systems over time with the objective of reaching and maintaining an upper quartile position in industry benchmarking.
  • Evaluation and recommendations for other revenue streams especially focused on contracted revenues to enhance the security of asset returns

Ideally You Will Have The Following

  • Industry Experience and excellent knowledge of energy trading, balancing markets and data industry.
  • Experience and knowledge of aggregation for the purpose of enrolment of assets in grid services such as DSR.
  • Can demonstrate a successful track record of trading on the UK markets through all avenues.
  • Experience of identifying new business opportunities and implementing solutions for them. Strong commercial understanding, especially in relation to maximising trading opportunities.
  • Ability to develop high quality management information to support decision making.
  • Excellent staff management and development skills.
  • Experience of using technology to drive innovation would be advantageous.
  • Good IT skills, especially in relation to Microsoft applications and Excel in particular
  • Self-starter, willing to be involved in the detail, whilst having sufficient gravitas to support and challenge key stakeholders as required.
  • Confident communicator at every level, with strong inter-personal and influencing skills.
  • Self-motivated, organised and capable of developing in the current role over time.
  • Committed individual, displaying drive, ambition, and professionalism.
  • Flexible to travel to other subsidiary sites as required.
  • Strategic Vision, demonstrable experience of formulating a vision, enlisting the support of cross departmental resource, and deploying strategy to sales / operational delivery.
