We are looking for a dynamic Development Manager (Post-Contract), to take charge of development projects ranging from £10m to £140m. As Development Manager you will coordinate internal departments, manage external consultants, and ensure projects are delivered from detailed design through to handover. Depending on the project’s scale and complexity, you may work with a Senior Development Manager or manage smaller projects independently.Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Oversee council development projects, focusing on post-contract work (RIBA stages 4-7).
  • Development Options: Create options for physical development and regeneration, including large-scale housing and mixed-use developments.
  • Collaboration: Work with other council departments to integrate corporate objectives into designs.
  • Procurement and Delivery: Lead procurement and post-contract design services, ensuring top-notch design, innovation, sustainability, and construction practices.
  • Planning Approvals: Secure planning approvals and manage planning conditions for mixed-tenure housing and community facilities.
  • Consultation and Engagement: Guide consultations with residents, ensuring methods support development programme objectives.
  • Progress Monitoring: Report on project milestones and targets to senior managers and elected members.
  • Team Coordination: Oversee project teams, including consultants and developers, ensuring compliance with agreements and plans.
  • Asset Management: Maximize benefits from land and asset redevelopment in collaboration with asset management services.
  • Legal and Planning Liaison: Work with Planning and Legal services on tenancy, planning, and development legislation.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Maintain effective communication with members and internal stakeholders post-contract.
  • Flexible Working: Work from various locations, attend meetings, and manage conflicting priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Site Visits: Visit building sites and wear personal protective equipment as needed.
  • Project Handover: Lead the handover process, securing all necessary sign-offs and approvals.
About YouQualifications
  • Essential: Relevant degree in construction, development, or regeneration, or significant experience with continuous professional development (minimum 3 years).
  • Experience within a local authority or an housing association would be an advantage
  • Membership in a professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB).
Knowledge & Skills
  • Experience managing complex mixed-use development projects.
  • Strong project management skills for technically complex construction projects.
  • Expertise in efficient handover processes for new developments.
  • Negotiation skills at various project stages.
  • Knowledge of public sector procurement.
