Summary of the Job:
The Senior Technical Manager role is for a certified architect with a minimum of 10 years detailed design and construction delivery experience on major residential and mixed-use developments, combining technical expertise, design knowledge, and exemplar managerial skills to oversee the entire detailed design process across various projects through to practical completion.
This role is critical in ensuring the successful translation of design concepts through the various detailed design work stages into cost effective technically feasible and implementable design solutions, coordinating with our Construction, Design and Commercial teams. The Senior Technical Manager must ensure that all designs align with technical requirements, meet regulatory standards, and are executed within budget and time lines.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage all technical design related work to ensure design integrity, feasibility, and adherence to project requirements.
- Oversee and approve technical design documentation, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with the design team and design consultants to ensure that creative visions are technically achievable and meet production/manufacturing constraints.
- Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to deadlines, budgets, and technical requirements.
- Develop and implement detailed project plans, programming, outlining key milestones, time lines, and deliverables.
- Coordinate closely with internal teams, including Design, Planning & Development, Commercial, and Sales & Marketing, to ensure smooth project execution.
- Act as the primary technical liaison between construction, design, and external stakeholders, ensuring all parties are aligned on project goals and technical specifications.
- Communicate complex technical details to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring a clear understanding of design decisions and potential trade-offs.
- Collaborate with external consultants, contractors, and suppliers to ensure the accuracy and quality of technical designs. Implement and oversee robust quality control procedures, ensuring that designs are free from errors and meet the necessary standards.
- Identify potential technical risks in the design process and implement mitigation strategies to avoid costly errors or delays in production.
- Conduct regular design reviews, audits, and tests to ensure compliance with design standards and regulations.
- Lead efforts to continuously improve technical design processes, including adopting new tools, technologies, and best practices to enhance team productivity and output.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new technologies, and materials, incorporating them into the design and development process when applicable.
- Ensure that all designs are optimised for cost-effective construction.
- Work with Commercial to ensure technical designs align with cost-saving initiatives and resource allocation.
- Attend contractor and supply chain meetings, provide direction and ensure all efforts are made for the timely release of consultant information, review of contractor information, instructions etc. to achieve programmed deliverables.
- Attend regular site inspections, record findings and provide direction on all qualitative and technical matters in accordance with contract requirements.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external teams, contractors etc. and ensure all project matters are proactively completed in good time and in accordance with programme expectations.
- Awareness of the importance of Health & Safety in construction and ensuring all parties strictly comply with industry standards.
- Prepare regular design and construction progress reports for senior management review.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in architecture or a related field is a must
- Chartered Member of RIBA or equivalent professional architectural license or certification
- Advanced technical certifications or training in relevant design and project management software such as Microsoft, AutoCAD, BIM, Asite etc..
- Extensive experience in technical design roles, with at least 3-5 years on the property developer side and minimum 10 years managing construction developments.
- Advanced knowledge of architecture design principles and industry standards
- Strong project management skills, including experience managing complex projects from concept to completion and handover.
- Strong attention to detail in reviewing and approving technical drawings, specifications, and documents.
- Ensure all designs meet regulatory requirements, quality standards, and client expectations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
- Comfortable handling shifting timelines, preparing project scopes, and proactively accepting new challenges in a dynamic workplace.
