Head of Building Safety

Location: Hybrid - Westminster (Office and Remote)

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Head of Building Safety to lead a dedicated team, ensuring the highest standards of building safety across a diverse portfolio of residential properties. This role is critical to ensuring compliance with evolving building safety regulations and maintaining safe, secure environments for residents.

About the Role:

As the Head of Building Safety, you will be responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of safety strategies and policies. You'll ensure full compliance with the Building Safety Act and lead the integration of safety procedures across the asset management function. This role involves mentoring the Building Safety Manager and working closely with senior leadership to address regulatory requirements and drive continuous improvement in building safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of building safety policies and strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with the Building Safety Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Provide guidance to the Building Safety Manager in meeting regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and submit building safety cases and respond to regulatory inquiries.
  • Drive the integration of building safety into asset management processes.
  • Manage a multi-disciplinary team and collaborate across departments.
  • Act as the main point of contact for building safety issues, advising senior leadership on risks and improvements.
  • Facilitate resident engagement, fostering trust and transparency on building safety matters.
  • Build strong relationships with contractors, consultants, and regulatory bodies.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for building safety and provide regular reports to senior management.

About You: We are looking for an experienced leader with in-depth knowledge of building safety regulations, especially the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) and its application in managing high-rise and complex residential buildings. You should be confident in leading large-scale safety programs and have excellent stakeholder management skills.

Key Requirements:

  • Significant experience working with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) and managing safety for high-rise and complex residential buildings.
  • Proven ability to write building safety cases and address regulatory clarification requests.
  • A relevant surveying qualification or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience mentoring and leading teams in building safety or related fields.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent report writing abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Building Safety Act, Fire Safety Act, and related legislation.
  • Expertise in risk management, safety compliance, and resident engagement.
