We are thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity to join our Scout Adventures team as a Senior Cook.

Location: Gilwell Park - With onsite live in accommodation

Salary:  £31,884 per annum, Band D, Level 3 inclusive of a market (live onsite)

Salary:  £33,644 per annum, Band D, Level 3 inclusive of a market & OLW (live offsite)

Term: Permanent

Working Hours: 40 hours per week 

About the team and role as the Senior Cook: 

This role comes with the unique benefit of onsite living in a 1-bed studio apartment, located in the heart of our 100-acre woodland estate on the edge of Epping Forest.

As the Senior Cook for Scout Adventures, you will take charge of preparing and cooking meals based on a set cycle menu, providing breakfast, lunch, and dinner for our diverse range of guests. This role encompasses all key areas of kitchen and food service operations, from food preparation and service to maintaining kitchen hygiene standards. You'll also be involved in other essential duties that contribute to the smooth running of the kitchen, ensuring a great dining experience for all visitors.

As the Senior Cook, Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the kitchen team to ensure high-quality food preparation and service.
  • Training and leading volunteers to follow Scout Adventures catering standards.
  • Preparing and cooking a range of nutritious meals 
  • Serving food to a high standard and ensuring allergens and dietary needs are catered for.
  • Stock management and placing orders.
  • Planning kitchen rotas based on business needs.

Who we’re looking for as our Senior Cook:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a large kitchen (schools, mass catering preferred).
  • At least 2 years of experience managing teams.
  • Experience training and managing junior kitchen staff and volunteers.
  • Level 2 Health & Safety and Food Hygiene qualification required.
  • First Aid qualification is desirable.
  • Someone friendly, calm, approachable, and a strong team player.
