Campus Liaison Officer (Full-Time)

Location: East London, FE College

Job Purpose: Reporting to the Campus Liaison Coordinator, the Campus Liaison Officer will support Senior Management and Security in creating a welcoming and safe environment at the college. You will oversee daily reporting of concerns and act as the first point of contact to respond and investigate when student behaviour falls below expected standards. You will ensure the implementation of the college's critical incident policy and work closely with the security team and Curriculum Management to address and follow up on student behaviour in line with the Student Behaviour Policy and Code of Conduct.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver high-quality care and service to all visitors, staff, and students, maintaining acceptable behaviour levels in line with college standards.
  2. Uphold college values and standards in communal areas, ensuring any concerns are reported and actioned.
  3. Lead the implementation of the college's critical incident policy when appropriate.
  4. Implement the college's student behaviour policy and ensure clear communication channels between key teams like security, safeguarding, reception, and senior managers.
  5. Support Curriculum Heads during disciplinary investigations and meeting preparation.
  6. Attend course team meetings and safeguarding meetings to provide support and share concerns.
  7. Participate in enrolment, open days, marketing events, parents’ evenings, and induction programmes.
  8. Engage students not performing to required standards, following college procedures for at-risk and intervention.
  9. Identify students requiring extra support and refer them to Student Services and/or Additional Learner Support.
  10. Liaise with parents/carers, the college welfare team, and external agencies to provide external care.
  11. Support managers, teachers, and coordination teams in maintaining and improving attendance.
  12. Be part of the safeguarding team and liaise with safeguarding managers to support and keep learners safe.

General Responsibilities:

  • Promote and implement the College’s Safeguarding Policy.
  • Participate in college staff development and training schemes.
  • Adhere to the College's Single Equality Scheme and champion inclusion and environmental sustainability.
  • Comply with and implement the College’s Health and Safety policy.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as required.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above, or a Functional Skills Qualification in English and Maths at Level 2.
  • Coaching/mentoring/youth worker qualification at Level 3 or above (desirable).
  • Initial teaching qualification, e.g., Award in Education and Training.
  • IAG qualification at Level 2 (desirable).

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Relevant and recent experience of working with young people.
  • Awareness of working in the FE sector or a similar setting.
  • Successful experience of engaging young people/adults in challenging circumstances.
  • Track record of engaging with parents/carers and external agencies.
  • Knowledge and implementation of successful Behaviour for Learning.
  • Understanding of Child and Vulnerable Adult protection (Safeguarding Agenda).
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements in a working environment.

Abilities:

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond to challenging incidents professionally.
  • Ability to relate to and motivate students from diverse backgrounds.
  • IT skills: use of Microsoft packages, interactive whiteboards, MS Teams, SharePoint, VLE, and online tracking & recording.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills for working with colleagues, students, parents, and external agencies.
  • Ability to support increased retention and achievement.
  • Self-starter, well-motivated, and enthusiastic with a track record in continuous personal development.
