A leading UK-based law firm known for its expertise in intellectual property and technology is seeking a talented Trainee Patent Attorney (Part-Qualified) to join its Intellectual Property team. This role offers an opportunity to work within a renowned IP practice, supporting innovative clients across various sectors and technologies.Role Overview:The successful candidate will contribute to a dynamic and highly regarded IP team, collaborating closely with patent attorneys, litigators, and other IP professionals. Key responsibilities include the drafting, filing, and prosecution of patents, primarily focusing on electrical engineering, software (including machine learning and neural networks), and telecommunications. Additionally, you will gain exposure to high-profile IP litigation, advising clients in complex patent disputes before key courts and regulatory bodies.Candidate Profile:The ideal candidate will have approximately two years’ experience in patent law and be part-qualified (Foundation level or equivalent, such as qualifications from QM, Bournemouth, or Brunel). A degree in physics, computer science, engineering, or a related field is essential, with a preference for candidates skilled in drafting and prosecuting software and electrical patents for UK and EPO filings.Skills and Attributes:
  • Strong analytical skills and a keen interest in understanding clients’ commercial strategies
  • Proven ability to work effectively within high-performing, collaborative teams
  • Exceptional time and project management abilities
  • Demonstrated interest in business development and client engagement
  • Highly technical background in physics, computer science, electrical engineering or similar discipline is essential.
