The focus of this position is to coordinate and manage a team of 4+ Data Centre engineers who operate on a 24/7 shift rotation, along with providing remote support for wider Data Centre operations in collaboration with other team leads.

Shift Pattern / Working Hours

The Data Centre Team Leader will support the 24/7 operations and may be required to work during this period for special projects and BAU activities. To ensure that shift engineers receive adequate support, the team leaders will operate on a split-shift schedule from 06:00 to 15:00 and from 14:00 to 23:00, Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities of the Data Centre Team Leader:

  • Lead a team of four Data Centre Engineers.
  • Assemble equipment racks, perform copper and fibre patching, install SFP modules, and deploy hardware for new server installations, ensuring strict adherence to established procedures.
  • Conduct connectivity testing for all installations, including end-device patching.
  • Manage change records for new installations and server relocation activities.
  • Support all aspects of the build process, including shipping, receiving, and troubleshooting hardware compatibility issues.
  • Assist with routine changes using IDRAC/MGMT ports (IP, gateway, ports, etc.) and manage server relocations within or between data centres.
  • Swap out smaller network devices.
  • Oversee the asset disposal process as per central system documentation.
  • Respond to break/fix incidents.
  • Help maintain and monitor Data Centre systems, addressing incidents, problems, and changes, and handling notifications and resolutions.
  • Continuously monitor Data Centre support queues and troubleshoot hardware issues.
  • Perform daily Data Centre health checks.
  • Conduct Data Centre walkthroughs to check alerts for PDUs, HVAC systems, RPPs, and server amber lights, and report findings to technical support.
  • Raise incident tickets as needed.
  • Record and report inventory levels for cabling materials and report to the DC Manager.
  • Track and report on capacity and available cabling.
  • Maintain inventory of spares (memory, SFPs, network cards, etc.) and update the central repository.
  • Manage IT asset databases and update records (ServiceNow).
  • Raise asset lifecycle tickets for BAU installations and decommissions.
