DataStage Data Warehousing Specialist

Role Profile

Our client, a leading investment banking organisation, is seeking a Data Warehousing Specialist to join their team. As a Data Warehousing Specialist, you will be responsible for translating requirements and data mapping documents into technical ETL designs, creating and reviewing high-level solution designs, and developing, enhancing, and maintaining ETL code following best practises and standards.

Purpose of Job:

  • Translate requirements and data mapping documents to a technical ETL design.

  • Create and review high-level design of solution.

  • Perform technical walkthroughs of amended DataStageETL solutions for peer reviews.

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain ETL code following best practises and standards.

  • Create and execute unit testing plans. Support Regression and System test efforts.

  • Debug and problem solve issues found during testing and/or production.

  • Promote DataStageETL code using Perforce and Urban Code deployment tools.

  • Evaluate data for completeness and correctness, validate that ETL code is working as expected.

  • Communicate status, issues, blockers to project manager and ETL team lead.

  • Support continuous improvement of ETL interfaces by identifying and solving opportunities.

  • Update and publish documentation, system diagrams, presentations, workflows, project plans, log issues, and unit testing logs.

  • Attend project and ETL meetings.

  • Perform knowledge transfer sessions to ETL Production support and Development team.

  • Assist Production support team on the resolution of production incidents related to ETL processes when required.

Accountabilities:

  • Ensure all deliverables meet internal standards, industry best practise within the agreed timeframe.

  • Ensure clear and transparent communication to all key stakeholders.

  • Be responsible for the project deliverables related to assigned initiatives.

  • Be responsible for IT-related risks, issues, and ensure appropriate escalation to appropriate management.

  • Support strategic discussions and propose appropriate recommendations to IT management.

  • Be responsible for troubleshooting, root cause analysis, data analysis related to BAU support requests.

  • Ensure appropriate tracking and escalation of IT-related risks and issues observed.

Skills and Experience:

  • IBM DataStage: Understanding of DataStage architecture and components. Familiarity with DataStage Designer, Director, and Administrator. Knowledge of DataStage jobs, stages, and data connections. Experience with parallel job design and development.

  • Database Systems: Relational databases (e.g., IBM Db2, Oracle, SQL Server). SQL and PL/SQL programming.

  • ETL development: Designing, developing, and deploying DataStage jobs. Creating complex ETL processes using DataStage and connectors. Performance tuning of DataStage jobs.

  • Data Transformation and Cleansing: Applying data transformation rules. Implementing data quality and data cleansing routines.

  • Data Integration: Integrating data from various sources (e.g., databases, flat files, XML). Handling structured and unstructured data.

  • Problem Solving and Debugging: Identifying and resolving ETL job failures. Troubleshooting performance issues.

  • Hands-on Experience with IBM DataStage: Several years of experience developing ETL solutions using IBM DataStage. Experience with different DataStage versions.

  • Project Experience: Involvement in full project life cycles, from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance. Working in Agile or Waterfall project environments.

  • Database and SQL Experience: Writing complex SQL queries and stored procedures. Working with large datasets and optimising queries for performance.
