This is a seriously weighty Principal Data Engineer position with a supremely well-funded AI start-up based in Zurich. UK home-based with fully expensed (hotel, flights etc) monthly visits to Zurich office.

The Principal Data Engineer role will see you 'in at the start’ working closely with equally senior FE, ML, Blockchain, AI, BE, UI/UX specialists. Plans are in place to scale the business ambitiously from Q2. The framework is complete, and now they need to build the MVP.

It’s a supremely fascinating product and challenge.

You will need substantial commercial experience (5+ years) as a go-to senior Data Engineer in a technology-led company together with demonstrably strong leadership skills, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication. You’ll already be on a high salary.

A flavour of the role:

  • Develop and maintain data pipelines for collecting, processing, and storing large datasets
  • Integrate data from various sources, including construction companies, architectural firms, and public databases
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability across all data sources
  • Collaborate with AI/ML Specialists and Data Acquisition Specialists to integrate acquired data into AI systems
  • Optimize data storage solutions for performance and scalability
  • Implement data governance and security measures to protect sensitive information
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline issues to ensure continuous data flow
  • Document data processes, pipelines, and architecture for future reference
  • Stay updated with the latest data engineering technologies and best practices
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs

Requirements:

  • Minimum BSc (1st/2.1) in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics; Masters/PhD a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience as a Data Engineer or similar role within a technology-driven company
  • Proficient in data engineering tools and languages such as SQL, Python, Java, or Scala
  • Experience with data pipeline frameworks like Apache Airflow, Talend, or AWS Glue
  • Strong understanding of database management systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Familiarity with data warehousing solutions and ETL processes
  • Knowledge of data security and compliance standards
