Desirable Experience & Application Requirements

Candidates must clearly demonstrate the following in their CVs:

  • Experience migrating Access Databases to SQL Server, SharePoint lists, or other modern database solutions.
  • Project leadership in delivering cost-effective, client-responsive solutions for business challenges, including undertaking qualitative and quantitative research and benchmarking.

While local government experience is highly desirable, candidates with experience in the wider public sector (e.g. NHS, education, central government) may also be considered.

The Role

Salt Recruitment is looking for an experienced Database Migration Engineer to join a Local Government body in Central London. This role will focus on leading the migration of Microsoft Access databases to SQL Server and SharePoint lists, ensuring minimal business disruption.

This is a hybrid position, requiring attendance in the London office once or twice per week, with the remainder remote. The contract is inside IR35 and offers £450 per day on a rolling 3-month contract.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead database migrations from Microsoft Access to SQL Server and SharePoint lists.
  • Manage end-to-end data migration projects, working with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Develop and implement best practices for database migration, ensuring efficiency and security.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to align on migration strategies.
  • Prepare reports and documentation, providing updates to senior managers.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in scope, managing risks effectively.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in migrating Access Databases to SQL Server and SharePoint lists.
  • Strong knowledge of data migration best practices, tools, and methodologies.
  • Experience managing data migration projects in a complex organisation.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working with external suppliers and third-party contractors.
  • Strong project management skills, including risk management and stakeholder engagement.
