GSL Education are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Science Technician to join a secondary school in Haringey. As a key member of the science department, you’ll ensure the smooth running of laboratory activities, assisting teachers and students in creating a safe and engaging space for learning. About the Role:

As a Science Technician, you will play a vital part in facilitating hands-on learning experiences for students. Working closely with the teaching staff, you will help prepare and maintain laboratory resources, support practical lessons, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for science and a commitment to fostering an inspiring educational environment.

Science Technician Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and set up laboratory equipment, materials, and specimens for practical science lessons.
  • Support teachers and students during experiments, providing technical guidance and ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  • Safely store, handle, and dispose of chemicals and hazardous substances in accordance with COSHH regulations.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
  • Organise and monitor the inventory of laboratory resources, ordering supplies as needed to maintain stock levels.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of engaging and curriculum-aligned practical experiments.
  • Conduct risk assessments for all experiments and ensure compliance with school health and safety policies.
  • Provide training for students and staff on the correct use of laboratory equipment and safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop innovative ways of delivering practical science lessons.
  • Support extracurricular science-based activities, such as STEM clubs or competitions.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation within the laboratory and preparation areas.

For the Science Technician role, what we need:

  • Prior experience working as a Science Technician, preferably in a school setting.
  • A degree in a scientific discipline is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with COSHH regulations and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Strong organisational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented approach.
  • Proficiency in maintaining and handling laboratory equipment.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one.
