Sterling Williams are working with a commodities broker based in the heart of London who are actively looking to hire a Trade & Communications Surveillance Analyst to join their Compliance function.

As part of this exciting compliance role you will be responsible for the trade and communication surveillance function within the firm:
- Undertake monitoring and surveillance for the firm in accordance with the agreed framework and procedures, ensuring the identification/escalation of suspicious activity that could be indicative of market abuse, financial crime or inappropriate market conduct.
- Working with the Head and Deputy Head of Compliance, undertake the annual review of the Market Abuse Risk Assessment (MARA), applicable policies, procedures, and internal controls to maintain a strong compliance framework with a view to managing/mitigating compliance risk.
- Maintain the compliance monitoring systems, ensure alert scenarios are calibrated appropriately to reduce false positives.
- Using the existing framework, undertake the annual and on-going assessment of active alert scenarios, including against available scenarios in the trade surveillance system, to ensure the live scenarios remain appropriate for the firm’s activities based on the business conducted and the risks identified in the MARA; maintain the assessment process documentation.
The successful candidate will have
- Strong knowledge of UK/EU regulatory framework and in particular Market Abuse Regulation (MAR)
- 3-5 years’ experience in a trade surveillance role at a brokerage or bank covering commodities markets (base metals and energy products)
- Knowledge of the Nasdaq Trade Surveillance system advantageous
- Knowledge of wholesale commodities markets (LME, ICE, SGX, HKFE, CME) Rules and Regulations
- Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills, and good attention to detail
- Motivated, proactive self-starter
- Ability to build effective relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues.
- Ability to demonstrate integrity, discretion, diplomacy and sound judgement.
- Problem solving and solutions orientated with the ability to demonstrate pragmatism.
- Degree educated.
