Mechanical Engineer
Location: North London/Hybrid
Salary: 315 per day (umbrella)


We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to a local authority in North London. In this role, you will be responsible for providing a professional mechanical engineering service, including specifying and designing new mechanical systems, inspecting works, fault finding, procurement, acting as a contract administrator, and project management for mechanical projects undertaken by the council.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert mechanical engineering support, with a focus on commercial and communal heating systems.
  • Design and specify mechanical systems for communal heating replacement works.
  • Manage retrofit and new build mechanical installations of communal heating and low-carbon mechanical systems.
  • Understand and manage heat networks effectively.
  • Write technical reports relevant to the role.
  • Utilise creative problem-solving skills to address engineering design and maintenance challenges.
  • Demonstrate excellent project management and contract administration abilities to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Conduct value engineering exercises to optimise project costs.
Requirements:
  • Strong technical knowledge of commercial and communal heating systems.
  • Ideally possess commercial gas qualifications.
  • Ability to prepare mechanical designs for communal heating replacement works.
  • Chartered Engineer status or full membership of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers.
  • Significant relevant experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently.
