An Early Help Practitioner working within the Youth Justice Service on the Turnaround Programme focuses on preventing children and young people from entering the youth justice system. This role involves early intervention, support, and guidance to address the root causes of potential criminal behaviour and promote positive outcomes for at-risk youth.

Key Responsibilities:

Assessment and Identification:

  • Conducting assessments to identify children and young people at risk of offending.
  • Using screening tools and working closely with schools, social services, and community organizations to pinpoint early signs of potential criminal behavior.

Developing Intervention Plans:

  • Creating individualized intervention plans based on assessment findings.
  • Tailoring support to address specific needs such as family issues, educational challenges, mental health concerns, or substance abuse.
  • Continuously monitoring the progress of the youth involved in the programme.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of intervention strategies and making necessary adjustments.
  • Maintaining detailed records and reports to track outcomes and improvements.

Community Engagement:

  • Engaging with community resources and organizations to provide additional support and opportunities for youth.
  • Promoting positive activities and involvement in community initiatives to reduce the risk of offending.
  • Education and Awareness:
  • Educating at-risk youth about the consequences of criminal behavior and the benefits of staying on a positive path.
  • Raising awareness among peers and the community about the importance of early intervention and support.
  • Skills and Qualities of an Effective Early Help Practitioner:
  • Empathy and Compassion: Ability to build trust and rapport with young people and their families.
