Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a child with special educational needs in a primary school in Lambeth. This is a full-time, long-term role, ideal for an individual with a passion for supporting children with additional needs and helping them to thrive in an inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to a child with SEN, adapting strategies to meet their individual needs.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.

  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to ensure the child's progress and well-being.

  • Encourage the child's engagement in classroom activities and promote their confidence and independence.

  • Use a variety of learning resources and assertive technologies to support learning.

  • Maintain accurate records of the child's progress and report observations to relevant staff and parents where appropriate.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Provide support during break times, transitions, and extracurricular activities where necessary.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEN, preferably in a primary school setting.

  • Understanding of a range of special educational needs, such as autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to working with children.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • A relevant qualification in education, childcare, or SEN support (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ, or equivalent) is desirable.

  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to upholding the welfare of children.

  • An enhanced DBS check on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
