The Role:

Long Term Futures is looking for a dedicated and proactive Pastoral Assistant to join a large secondary school in Westminster. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a school with a progressive leadership team, committed to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

The role will involve providing support to students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs) and behaviour challenges, working both individually and in small groups. You will play an integral role in promoting student well-being, assisting in behaviour management strategies, and offering mentorship and guidance to students who require additional support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with students requiring SEMH and behaviour support, helping them develop resilience and emotional regulation
  • Provide 1:1 mentoring to students facing challenges both inside and outside the classroom
  • Assist in managing behaviour in isolation, working with students to reflect on and improve their choices
  • Deliver small group interventions, focusing on personal development and social skills
  • Collaborate with the pastoral team, Heads of Year, and school leadership to implement positive behaviour strategies
  • Monitor student progress and contribute to pastoral care plans
  • Act as a role model and mentor, fostering a culture of respect and accountability
What We're Looking For:
  • Experience working in a pastoral, behaviour support, or mentoring role within a secondary school
  • A strong understanding of SEMH needs and experience managing challenging behaviours
  • The ability to engage, inspire, and build positive relationships with students
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, working collaboratively with staff and students
  • A calm, patient, and proactive approach, able to de-escalate situations effectively
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
Additional Information:
  • Full-time role, Monday to Friday
  • Paid up to £125 per day, term time only
  • Based in Westminster, London, with excellent transport links
  • Immediate start, with potential for a long-term placement
