SEND Teaching Assistant - Secondary School, Lewisham

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic and supportive team at a thriving Secondary School in Lewisham. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a passion for supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and helping them thrive in a mainstream educational setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide tailored support for students with SEND in the classroom, helping them to access the curriculum and succeed academically.
  • Work closely with teachers to implement individual learning plans and strategies to support students' needs.
  • Offer emotional and behavioural support, encouraging positive attitudes and building confidence.
  • Assist with the delivery of specific interventions and learning resources.
  • Monitor and report on students' progress, working with staff to adapt strategies as necessary.
  • Help create an inclusive, nurturing, and safe learning environment for all students.
  • Support students during break times and with any personal care needs as required.
  • Liaise with parents and external professionals to ensure effective communication and support.
Requirements:
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children is essential. Experience in supporting students with SEND, especially in a secondary school setting, is a must.
  • DBS: A current Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is required.
  • Skills: Excellent communication skills, both with students and colleagues. Ability to adapt to different learning needs and support students with varying abilities.
  • Attitude: A positive, proactive, and patient approach with a genuine passion for supporting young people with SEND.
  • Qualifications: While not essential, qualifications in special educational needs or related fields are desirable.
