A lovely mainstream primary school located in Grove Park (SE London) are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated Teaching Assistant with BSL Level 1 or higher to join our team and support Deaf children in both mainstream classrooms and specialised small group or one-to-one settings. This is a full time position with an ASAP start.

Sign Language Teaching Assistant Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Teacher of the Deaf, using a Total Communication approach, to support Deaf pupils' access to learning.
  • Provide support in both mainstream classrooms and the Centre for the Deaf, assisting with learning, progress, and inclusion.
  • Facilitate Deaf pupils' access to the curriculum and help them participate fully in all learning experiences.
  • Promote independence in learning and other aspects of school life, where appropriate.

Sign Language Teaching Assistant Key Requirements:

  • BSL Level 1 qualification or above with experience in primary school settings.
  • Ability to understand the needs of students with diverse social backgrounds, sensory impairments, and special educational needs.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills alongside BSL communication.
  • Ability to build and maintain appropriate professional relationships with both young people and adults.
  • Good organisational, time management, and ICT skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
