Our client Scottish Power Renewables are currently recruiting for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join their team based in London or Glasgow on a contract basis initially. Ideally for this role they are looking for a strong Electrical/Project Engineer with a background in EHV/HV system equipment related to offshore/onshore wind farms. Main Purpose of Job

The Senior Electrical Engineer is a critical role within the Offshore Renewables Business, focussing on the delivery of EA3 offshore wind projects in the UK.
Belonging to the Project Services Transmission department and reporting to the Lead Electrical Engineer, the Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for coordination of main electrical equipment technical queries raised from site team, managing contract from the technical requirements, assisting the site team on technical queries, coordinating activities with MEQ contractor and other disciplines for the tasks related to MEQ, planning and implementing delivery of tasks associated interfaces, defining company and business engineering standards and technical acceptance criteria, and ensuring quality, best practices and excellent H&SE performance are applied.
The role will require an expert in EHV/HV (HVDC system) equipment related to offshore/onshore wind farms, defining requirements and activities related to EA3 Projects. The Senior Electrical Engineer will be a recognised expert in their field and take leadership within and out with the business to develop and set the standards for how the business specifies, procures, transports, installs and commissions EHV/HV Electrical Equipment.
The individual will be working as part of a global business with activities in many countries across Europe and the rest of the world. The position may require travel to various locations in the UK and overseas and the individual should be capable of managing teams working at different project locations.
Key Responsibilities

Key Tasks

The Senior Electrical Engineer- MEQ will be integrated within the Offshore services Team being responsible for:
• Overseeing and managing the co-ordination the MEQ activities within the EA3 project. Need to deal with site services team, installation & commissioning team, Package manager(s), other discipline leads/ engineers, MEQ contractor and their appointed infrastructure contractors.
• Being aware of electrical area interfaces with other areas, managing them as well as the associated inputs and outputs required for project progress.
• Should have good experience of the HVDC system and the related auxiliary systems, Main Electrical Equipments under the HVDC projects. He/ she will be required to provide technical assistance to the site team during the execution phase.
• Will be technically competent to review the site reports (technical), assisting the package manager with decision making and leading the design aspects within a typical site execution phase of the project.

• Being the focal point for reporting the package manger about the electrical area and providing technical support to any other area related to substation & equipment electrical design until the ONCS & OFCS is transferred to O&M.
• Should be competent to address all the MEQ related queries during the site execution phase.
• Will be responsible for preparing any deliverables required as part of the MEQ execution team.
• Contributing towards lessons learnt from the project and sharing with team to ensure the knowledge sharing within the team and contributing towards business excellence.

Minimum Criteria (Mandatory)
• Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
• The ability to understand complex engineering and construction information, which may be unfamiliar • Proven ability to work in a team environment and also independently.
• Experience of working in and managing highly skilled teams
• Solid grasp of engineering and work control of large-scale project delivery
• IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems and learn how to use new IT applications.
• Educated to degree level in relevant engineering discipline or a related subject.
• Self-motivated, with personal organisation and planning skills
• English speaking.
• Flexible to travel around the UK and overseas.
• Comprehensive knowledge of engineering procedures, standards and guidance.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
The candidate should also possess:
• Extensive experience in the area of Electrical and Grid Works related to offshore wind covering and/or transmission and generation projects related to system studies, system behaviours.
• Extensive experience in the design, manufacturing, specification, construction or operation of HVDC
Systems covering o VSC Multilevel converters o HVDC VSC Control Systems o HVDC VSC Sub systems, e.g. cooling o Associated HVAC systems o HVDC switching, transformers and associated plant.
o Offshore converter station design and layout issues
• Experience with OFCS (Offshore Converter Substation) & ONCS (onshore Converter Substation) design, Electro-mechanical system knowledge, auxiliary systems required within a HVDC project.
• Experience within a client role dealing with EPIC projects, resolving challenges within EPIC nature of projects,
• Need to coordinate with site team, project management, contractors, QA/QC, etc.
• May need to travel to site (overseas or within UK) for witnessing critical installations, testing activities, site queries on design & engineering aspects.
• Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline with a higher level degree (e.g. MEng) desirable.
• Experience of working in teams involved in multidisciplinary work packages in international environments.
• Pro-active and diligent approach.
• Proven experience in delivery of large packages, including contract management, programme management, cost and risk control.
• Sound relationship management skills and confidence working with Senior Management.
• Proven communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to influence and develop key engineering decisions.
• Excellent report writing, presentation skills and ability to summarize key parameters and drivers impacting the package.
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
