Street Lighting Engineer Immediate Start

Location: Hammersmith & Fulham
Pay Rate: £29 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract Type: Temporary, Full-Time
Hybrid Working - preference to work from office most times during the week

Pertemps is proud to recruit on behalf of a leading London council for an experienced Street Lighting Engineer. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the maintenance and innovation of street lighting, EV charging infrastructure, and road safety features across the borough.

The Role:

As a Street Lighting Engineer, you will:
  • Managing and implementing street lighting and signage work in line with specifications and available resources.
  • Overseeing both electrical and non-electrical maintenance, including Smart street lighting CMS systems, EV chargers, and road markings.
  • Ensuring street signs and road markings comply with legal traffic orders and coordinating works with contractors and public utility companies under the Traffic Management Act.
  • Conducting inspections, investigations, and condition surveys using data capture equipment to record and address defects.
  • Providing technical advice to councillors, stakeholders, and senior professionals on issues related to street lighting and infrastructure.
  • Staying updated on technical developments to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and introducing innovative solutions.
  • Preparing reports, attending council meetings, and representing the department in various forums.
  • Exercising financial control over projects and ensuring the efficient use of resources.
  • Assisting with night scouting inspections of electrical installations and maintaining relevant computer-based databases.
  • Responding to public and stakeholder inquiries and supporting the councils litigation and planning appeals as required.

Qualifications (Essential):
A bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Practical experience in the highways industry, including liaising with contractors and assessing works.
Current Street Works (NRWSA) Supervisor qualification.

Qualifications (Desirable):
Masters degree or advanced qualifications in a related field.
Membership of a relevant environmental institution.
Project management qualification.

Knowledge & Experience (Essential):
Experience working with systems like CONFIRM.
Detailed understanding of highways legislation, such as the Highways Act 1980.
Experience delivering multi-disciplinary projects, including lighting, civils, and traffic.
Competency in using GIS databases and tools like Ark Map for condition surveys.
Strong IT and data management skills, with experience using large database systems.
Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
