Job role: Senior Environmental & Sustainability Advisor
Reporting to: Environment and Sustainability Manager

Role Purpose
The Senior Environmental & Sustainability Advisor supports the development and implementation of the company's environmental and sustainability initiatives. This role focuses on promoting sustainable practices, ensuring regulatory compliance, and minimizing environmental impact. The advisor collaborates with various departments to embed sustainability into operations and culture.
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert advice and support on environmental and sustainability issues, maintaining relationships with regulators, clients, and subcontractors. Conduct site inspections, coaching teams on best practices and ensuring compliance with legislation. Implement and promote initiatives such as carbon footprint reduction, energy efficiency, waste management, and green procurement.
Collect, analyse, and report environmental KPI data, ensuring accurate monitoring records and compliance documentation. Stay updated on legislative changes, recommending necessary adjustments to systems and processes. Develop and update environmental and sustainability plans, including environmental risk assessments, and support operations and design teams with compliance and mitigation measures.
Manage stakeholder engagements for licenses and consents, ensuring full compliance. Investigate environmental incidents and implement preventative controls. Deliver training sessions to enhance awareness of environmental sustainability and support internal and external audit activities. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to environmental and sustainability initiatives.
Personal Attributes & Competencies
A passion for environmental sustainability with a strong understanding of Net Zero principles, carbon measurement, and reduction strategies. Practical knowledge of environmental risk mitigation on construction projects, including waste and water management, pollution prevention, statutory nuisance, contaminated land, ecological mitigation, and biodiversity net gain.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, manage site inspections effectively, and handle potential conflicts. Strong communication and presentation skills to engage and influence stakeholders.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
Previous experience in environmental management, sustainability, or a related field, with experience supporting projects, including data collection and analysis. A degree in an environmental or sustainability discipline, proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and a full UK Driving License.
Desirable:
Membership of IEMA, an Internal Environmental Auditor qualification, and experience using Hazwaste Online for Hazardous Property Assessment.
