Join the FDF’s Packaging team where you will play a key role in helping the sector deliver on its circular economy objectives as part of FDF’s environmental policy work programme. As a Circular Economy Executive, you will undertake research and project work, liaising with members and external stakeholders, along with preparing policy papers and reports for FDF Committees.

In line with the current focus of the role the Circular Economy Executive will represent the sector and communicate with members regarding UK Government policies aimed at reducing plastic and other packaging waste and increasing the recycling of all packaging. You will be actively working in a number of key policy areas including Extended Producer Responsibility, Deposit Return Schemes, Consistent Collections, the Plastic Packaging Tax and the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.

Key responsibilities for the Circular Economy Executive

  • Lead/provide support for specific aspects of FDF’s policy work on plastics and packaging including EPR, DRS and Consistent Collections;
  • Support FDF's representation of the sector to external stakeholders, including Government departments, value chain representatives and NGOs;
  • Support the work of the Packaging Task Force and EPR Advocacy Group;
  • Effectively communicate packaging issues to members, including business readiness issues, gathering feedback and responding to specific queries;
  • Specifically on packaging EPR support FDF’s engagement with members, officials, and value chain partners around the strategic aim of securing a producer–led scheme;
  • Provide support or take the lead on individual policy areas and projects.

Requirements for the Circular Economy Executive

  • Experience in environmental policy and corporate sustainability, in particular increasing resource efficiency and circular outcomes in relation to packaging and packaging waste;
  • Experience in multi-stakeholder engagement and communication, including the ability to present complex technical information in an accessible and engaging way;
  • Good understanding of environmental policy implications for the food and drink industry;
  • Interest in national and international regulatory and public interest issues affecting the UK food and drink industry;
  • Excellent networking skills;
  • Ability to be highly adaptable to reflect changing business and Government policy priorities.
