DIGITAL MEDIA AND EVENTS COORDINATOR

Salary: £31,000 FTE.

Position: Permanent, full time (potential to negotiate to 4 days a week), open to flexible and hybrid working, with an expectation of regular travel to the national office in London and out to Practices across England as needed.

Location: Coram Campus, Brunswick Square, London, WC1N 1AZ.

Reporting to: External Affairs & Communications Lead.

Start date: ASAP.

THE ROLE

SHiFT is an innovative, ambitious, and impatient organisation – we’re in a period of rapid growth, we are already achieving significant successes alongside children and families, and we want to shout loudly and distinctively about the work we’re doing and how it makes a difference.

We’re looking for a Digital Media & Events Coordinator to join the national team – a new role for us at an exciting time of growth. SHiFT is led and supported by some of the most imaginative social entrepreneurs and practitioners in the sector. We have a distinctive brand and ‘insider-outsider’ positioning – a charity at the frontline of public service delivery and transformation. Our External Affairs & Communications Lead has laid strong and exciting creative foundations for our brand and positioning for you to take forward and develop in collaboration with them. This role is a fantastic opportunity for someone creative, who sweats the small stuff, has a ‘can do’ attitude, and is ambitious to grow and make a difference as part of a practice-led systems change organisation.

SHiFT’s Digital Media & Events Coordinator will have a sharp eye for detail and branding, and the creative vision and technical skill to craft high-impact messages across a wide range of media, especially video and social media. People who know you will describe you as imaginative, energetic, curious, and a divergent thinker; someone who loves the books ‘Information is Beautiful’ and Priya Parker’s ‘The Art of Gathering’ as much as we do. You’ll come to SHiFT ready to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in.

The role is broad – from creative content generation to events and internal communications. You will be part of a small (and mighty!) national team but can expect to work closely with SHiFT Practices across the country and ‘hand in glove’ with SHiFT’s External Affairs & Communications Lead, Phoebe Minson. Phoebe works closely with SHiFT’s Chief Executive on our external relationships and influencing activities. She holds overall responsibility for our communications approach and strategy and leads on the delivery of all outward facing communications activities, to which you will also contribute.

EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY

SHiFT is actively committed to the eradication of discrimination and disadvantage on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age, marital status and on the basis of socio-economic circumstances.  We are determined for SHiFT to be a diverse and inclusive organisation that is enriched by a wide range of backgrounds, expertise, and experiences. We want to build a workplace that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included, and involved.

As a charity working within youth justice, we are keenly aware of the over-representation of children who identify as Black, Brown or Mixed Heritage within the youth justice system. Challenging racism is a key priority for SHiFT. In seeking to achieve this, we understand the value and importance of recruiting and retaining a workforce which represents the children we seek to support. We therefore particularly encourage and welcome applications from people of diverse ethnic backgrounds, and we recognise that this group is currently under-represented within our national team.

THE RESPONSIBILITES

SHiFT’s Digital Media & Events Coordinator has responsibility for:

Creative content and storytelling:

  • Produce imaginative and eye-catching creative content tailored to a range of audiences and channels, from printed reports, to infographics, films, and social media content.
  • Ensure all internal communications are on brand and of exceptional quality and work as needed with the support and supervision of SHiFT’s External Affairs & Communications Lead to ensure the same in relation to external communications.

Brand:

  • Ensure a strong brand presence throughout everything we do, including through use of language.
  • Provide expert design support and guidance to colleagues across the organisation, including SHiFT Practices.
  • Contribute ideas and collaborate with SHiFT’s External Affairs & Communications Lead to develop SHiFT’s brand identity to ensure its distinctiveness and quality.

Website:

  • Ensure SHiFT’s website is always dynamic, current, and informative for everyone it is created for.

Events:

  • Support the crafting and delivery of SHiFT events, including launches of new SHiFT Practices, and conferences and workshops.
  • You can expect to work lead in relation to internal events, often working closely with a SHiFT Practice Development Lead and Practice and collaborate with support and supervision from SHiFT’s External Affairs & Communications Lead in relation to external events and activities.

YOU WILL BRING

Beliefs and alignment:

  • The belief that all people are capable of change and that a relationship with a skilled practitioner can be a powerful driver of this.
  • The belief that young people who display behaviours linked to offending can be supported so that they cease offending and meaningfully contribute to society.
  • An alignment to a culture of high trust and high expectation where there are fewer rules, high levels of accountability, and a need for excellent performance from the entire team.
  • An alignment to SHiFT’s Values – ambition, courage, flexibility, and tenacity – which reflect the ‘Breaking Cycles’ ingredients (the foundations on which SHiFT is built).
  • A preparedness to challenge the status quo and be positively disruptive in the pursuit of higher standards even when this is uncomfortable.
  • Dynamism, tenacity, and determination – you are someone who does not give up until you succeed. You have a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Curiosity and a commitment to learning – comfortable in a fast-paced and aspirational ‘start-up’ context, and as part of a team that is committed to ongoing reflection, adaptation, and improvement.

Experience, knowledge, and skills:

  • Demonstrable experience in creating high impact, beautiful content across a wide range of media and in a wide range of formats, especially video and digital content.
  • Excellent and demonstrable written and oral communication skills – an outstanding storyteller with an eye for detail and branding and ability to develop and tailor creative content to influence stakeholders across different sectors and levels.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with a range of stakeholders, including building relationships and getting things done with people whose buy in and investment in your work may need to be developed rather than automatically being there from the start.
  • Ability to think differently, problem solve and offer helpful, creative solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of digital platforms and tools, including WordPress, InDesign and Adobe, website design and updating (SHiFT currently uses Square Space) and video / audio content creation.

Qualifications and background:

  • A minimum of two years’ experience of working in a creative / communications / events role.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • This post is subject to a police check of previous criminal convictions with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
