Our client is a law firm with offices located in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. Their aim is to become the leading Law firm combining specialist business law and private wealth advice internationally. They have over 1000 staff, which includes over 150 Partners and approximately 40 employees within the Finance team.

They currently have an opportunity for an experienced Finance Business Analyst. The role is part of the Business Partnering team within Finance and will work closely with other Finance teams, in particular the Reporting and Analysis team. Responsibility of providing detailed analysis to improve understanding of the financial performance of fee earning departments to assist in commercial decision making

Responsibilities

  • Regularly review actual performance, prepare forecasts/projections, and monitor against business plans and budgets.
  • Monitoring and managing key financial targets (e.g., billing, chargeable hours, recovery, and profitability).
  • Assist the production of monthly, quarterly, and yearly management information pack including KPI's and divisional commentaries.
  • Review operating results and actual performance of the overall business as well as individual departments, practice groups, partners, and fee-earners.
  • Assist the Commercial Finance team with budgeting and planning cycles for fee earning departments.
  • Work with the Business Intelligence team to support profitability analysis at client, matter, work type, partner, and fee earner level.
  • Ad-hoc financial analysis and project work, analysing and understanding underlying financial data.
  • Enhancing existing reporting processes, with a creative focus and showing initiative on simplification, automation, and visualisation to improve communication to stakeholders.
  • Analysing large amounts of data and isolating key financial data into structured reports.
  • Regular liaison with wider finance teams and other business support teams.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Professional accounting qualification a plus but not essential
  • Have a strong financial analysis background
  • Highly advanced Excel skills e.g., pivot tables, advanced formulas
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Power-point
  • Significant experience of using 3e, or other similar practice management system
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn to use new tools (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Power Query)
  • Previous experience in a legal sector role or other partnership structure is desirable but not essential
  • Experience working with P&L statements and understand the drivers of a profitable business
