Skills and Experience Required:

  • Experience in financial services, asset valuation/reporting, insurance investment, or investment consulting.
  • Strong understanding of asset modelling, valuation, and fundamental investing, with a keen interest in further developing these skills.
  • Proficiency in Python and Excel is essential.
  • Solid grasp of the implications of financial regulations like SII or IFRS17 on asset investments.
  • Advanced IT skills with the ability to independently propose and implement solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex investment concepts to non-experts.
  • Strong collaboration skills, capable of fostering relationships with internal teams and external partners.
  • A results-oriented approach, with the ability to grasp complex ideas and seek guidance when needed.
2. Key Responsibilities

You will work closely with senior members of the Investment Actuarial team and the wider Investment Team to help achieve team objectives.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting modelling workstreams related to credit risk and long-term risk management strategies, asset pricing (both public and private), and optimising capital and balance sheet positions. You will also manage the inflow of assets and liabilities in a capital-efficient way, taking into account medium-term investment strategy and liquidity.
  • Developing and maintaining key models and processes for the Investment Team.
  • Providing quantitative expertise to support the investment function.
  • Assessing the eligibility of current and newly acquired assets, refining processes where necessary.
  • Enhancing risk management and management information (MI) capabilities for the team.
  • Offering technical support in evaluating the impact of investment activities in line with relevant regulations.
  • Contributing to new business pricing activities, including establishing investment yield curves.
  • Working with the Asset and Liability Management (ALM) team to assess the impact of investments.
  • Providing general assistance with various investment projects.
3. Key Activities
  • Transitioning existing models to new platforms using Python or similar modelling software. This will include tasks such as capital & balance sheet optimisation, investment pricing, and liquidity assessment tools.
  • Ensuring the ongoing development and maintenance of models to meet internal needs and remain fit for purpose.
  • Collaborating with the ALM team to ensure alignment of cash flow matching and broader investment assumptions.
  • Working with the Investment Team to identify modelling and MI requirements and offer actuarial expertise.
  • Collaborating with Investment Strategy and other departments on assumptions and methodologies for new business pricing.
  • Assisting with the DB business team.
  • Preparing reports and papers for relevant committees, including risk and credit forums.
4. Qualifications

Essential:

  • Nearly or newly qualified actuary or CFA.

Desirable:

  • Experience within the investment area.
